Intern CAD Tooling Support

Purpose: The CAD Tooling Intern will provide support to the AMG Tool and Die group by leveraging their CAD skills to assist the tooling team in ongoing projects. This internship provides an opportunity to sharpen your CAD skills and gain understanding around tool and die shop operations.

 

Essential functions:

  1. Follow all company safety guidelines, practices, and procedures. This includes the proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
  2. Create 3D CAD models of mold and die components and assemblies on new tooling.
  3. Create 2D detail drawings for mold and die components for new tooling projects.
  4. Create and/or update historical CAD data for older molds and dies into current software.
  5. Verify that current mold components and CAD data match and update data as needed to address any inconsistencies.
  6. Assist in creating processing engineering change orders-ECO’s.
  7. Assist in defining processes in the tool and die shop and documenting them in work instructions.
  8. Assist in troubleshooting root cause of problems in production molds and formulating the plan to fix the mold.
  9. Assist in categorizing, organizing, and monitoring AMG tool crib items.
  10. Assist with installing visual factory methods in AMG and Stamping areas.
  11. Assist with implementing identified tasks in support of SMED/Quick Change program.
  12. Follow company policies and procedures.
  13. Creating and continually improving upon a culture of teamwork, accountability, and trust by modeling expectations and providing positive feedback to drive desired behaviors.
  14. Documenting and submitting performance reporting as required.
  15. Responsible for maintaining attendance and punctuality per company policies and procedures.
  16. Performing other duties, as assigned.

 KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

Currently enrolled in an engineering program consistent with skills needed for tool and die design. Functional knowledge in use of solid modeling software, preferably SolidWorks. Capable of growing in knowledge and demonstrating competency in your job.

Intern Product Engineer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

Solids Works Design:

  • Work closely with our engineering team to create detailed 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Collaborate on the design and development of components and systems, ensuring adherence to Allied Moulded standards and project requirements.

Project Task Execution:

  • Take ownership of assigned project tasks and see them through from conception to completion.
  • Participate in task-driven project work, applying engineering principals to solve real-world challenges.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Communicate effectively within the engineering team, sharing progress updates and seeking input when needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate design solutions into broader project objectives.

Problem Solving:

  • Analyze engineering problems and propose effective solutions, demonstrating a keen problem-solving mindset.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of design changes, iterations, and project progress.
  • Prepare reports and presentations as required.

Data Analysis:

  • Collect and analyze data via reports and on the production floor to ensure detailed understanding of key variables of the data.
  • Generate reports and provide support on decision making.

Perform other duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, (or related degree), Proficiency in SolidWorks and other relevant engineering software. Strong understanding of engineering principles and design fundamentals. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

MENTAL/VISUAL REQUIREMENT:

Ability to follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work without close supervision. Ability to generate reporting documents and participate in team meetings. Self-motivated with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment. Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents. Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
